Design and Build – Loughborough park
Under a JCT Design and Build contract Countryside built all 487 new homes in the Loughborough Park Estate for Guinness Partnership. The phased regeneration of Loughborough Park has transformed the Brixton estate into a modern and exciting location with sustainability at the centre of the design proposals.
At Loughborough Park both buildings and landscaping are configured to reduce energy consumption and maximise natural light whilst improving local wildlife and ecology. A controlled palette of materials is used throughout the scheme to achieve individual block character and attractive architectural modulation. A sense of openness is achieved through generously glazed entrances and stair cores, and a mix of buff and red brick with other cladding materials help to emphasise entrances. At the heart of the development a community centre and play space offers activities and events for all residents.
Loughborough Park has a range of innovations that were delivered as part of the scheme. The development was up to 12 stories tall, with brown roofs with accompanying pv panels, to generate onsite electricity, decrease utility bills for residents and decrease the lifecycle costings of the scheme. The site also has its own communal heat system, in order to decrease the use of boilers in each flat and a further reduction in utility bills by having heating obtained from a communal heating source.
