Enfield Council Leader visits New Avenue in North London

Enfield Council Leader visits New Avenue in North London

In June 2021, we welcomed Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Leader of Enfield Council to New Avenue, our regeneration scheme in the suburb of Oakwood, North London, to celebrate the progress we have made on site and share the plans for the two upcoming phases.

The Countryside team, led by Mike Woolliscroft, Chief Executive, Partnerships South and Dan Layton, Managing Director, Partnerships North London, were joined by Francis Carolan, Strategic Lead for Resident relations and Paul White, Housing Development Manager at Enfield Council and Pavlina Stergiadou from HTA architects.

During the development visit, Countryside briefed the team on results from Phase 1, the plans for the upcoming phases of work and the successes of the working partnership with the council. Cllr Caliskan also had the opportunity to meet some of the current residents at New Avenue and speak to them about their experience of buying and living here.

The visit marked the completion of the first phase of the development, including the delivery of 127 new homes, of which 78 are owned by Enfield Council, enabling local residents to live at New Avenue via shared equity or on an affordable and social rent basis.

When complete, New Avenue will offer a total of 502 new homes, along with a community centre for residents. Comprising a mix of 1 – 3-bedroom apartments, including 3-bedroom duplexes, all residents will benefit from the development’s outdoor space. This includes a play area and Eco Garden, which are ideal for families who are seeking the best of both worlds – lots of green space on the doorstep with all of the perks of living in the capital.

Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Leader of Enfield Council, said: “We are pleased and proud to be working closely with Countryside and HTA Design to deliver much needed energy efficient and affordable new homes for our residents. It’s important to see regeneration in existing communities and the heart of everything is being able to provide decent homes to help people live their best lives.

“It’s imperative that we help to provide safe, stable homes for children growing up in Enfield and that we build cohesive communities. One in three children in the borough live in poverty and their life chances should not be determined by the family in which they were born into.

“Enfield Council is at the forefront of major infrastructure and house building schemes in our borough to deliver good quality, affordable homes for our residents. As a local authority we are working hard to tackle housing shortages, increase the supply of affordable homes and are accelerating the delivery of new homes.”

Daniel Layton, Managing Director, Partnerships North London, Countryside, said: “Together with Enfield Council and HTA Design, we have created the beginning of a new, thriving community at New Avenue. We’re delighted to now be able to begin work on the next phase of the scheme, which will deliver much needed new and affordable homes for the area.”
