Hope Corner Community Centre at Brook Valley Gardens receives laptops to help community support groups

Hope Corner Community Centre in Brook Valley Gardens, has received a number of laptops to help the local community. Countryside, the UK’s leading mixed-tenure housebuilder is working with L&Q to deliver a landmark garden suburb on the site of the former Dollis Valley Estate in Chipping Barnet, North London.

Following fundraising from The Skills Centre scheme and a partnership with the Mayor of London’s fundraising scheme, the devices have been purchased to help residents at Brook Valley Gardens who have little or no access to computers at home. Although the Hope Corner Community Centre had a bank of laptops, the pandemic made these impossible to access and highlighted the need for laptops in the community that could be taken away and used at home.

Under the provisions of The Skills Centre scheme, the new devices will enable Hope Corner to offer a lending library system for residents to take the devices home with them. Countryside is also working in partnership with the centre to set up a local steering group to manage a flexible training budget. The laptops will help those residents partaking in the training.

The centre has continued to serve the local community despite being forced to close by the restrictions with lunches being delivered twice a week to vulnerable and isolated residents – and in the past month, children’s activities such as Fixation Theatre group and Irish Dancing classes have restarted.

Hope Corner Community Centre is set to re-open fully from Monday May 17 2021 in line with Government guidance.
