From old to new build: 'How Countryside convinced us to buy new'

Nuneaton buyers, Phil and Jen, were pleasantly surprised to find new build homes with real character at Countryside’s Baberton Grange.  

When second time buyers, Phil and Jen set sail browsing the property market, the couple were adamant that an older build was for them. However, after just one visit to Nuneaton’s Baberton Grange, they fell instantly in love with Countryside and their journey to new build home-owners began. 

Having lived in a Victorian terraced property for a number of years, the pair were firmly attached to the character and unique features of secondhand homes. They never believed they could achieve the same feel in a new build - until they saw their four-bedroom Oakham home at Baberton Grange. 

Phil commented: “When we came across Baberton Grange online, we quickly realised that Countryside offers a number of different house styles we loved and we instantly had a good feeling about the development. Ideally, we wanted somewhere with plenty of character and a large living space, and the open plan family living area in The Oakham was exactly what we were looking for.” 

Jen added: “The Oakham exterior has a traditional 1930s look but with French doors, a bay window and skylight windows adding a modern feel. It was really important for us to be able to make the property our own, and a new build gives us that clean slate with impressive specification and luxury features as well. We plan to add our own style to the home by injecting extra character through our decor choices.” 

Phil and Jen were also drawn in by the energy efficiency of a new build Countryside home, particularly in comparison to their former terraced property. 

Phil commented: “We would often experience drafts and loss of heat in our previous property due to the age of the house, so we love that our new home is designed to keep the heat in and costs low. We also like the eco features that are included with Countryside, such as the PIV (Positive Input Ventilation) system, which filters fresh air through the home. Not to mention the separate heating thermostats, which gives us the option to control the heating both upstairs and downstairs - saving us money in the process.”

Phil and Jen were able to sell their former property and reserve their new home in just two days, using Countryside’s Assisted Move Scheme.

Jen commented: “The Countryside team were amazing and we were so surprised at how quickly they sold our old home. Moving house is never usually a straightforward process but so far everything has been pretty much plain sailing.”
