Countryside Health and Safety team visit Saints Peter and Paul Primary School

Countryside Returns To Kirkby School To Teach a Lesson in Health and Safety

We are educating pupils in Kirkby once again on the importance of staying safe around construction sites, as part of our ongoing community safety initiative.

Our Health and Safety team paid a visit to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School this month to teach the children an important lesson in health and safety when playing near or walking past our nearby Highfield Place development on Headbolt Lane.

We returned to the school after first visiting back in 2016 when our Highfield Green development was being built. After the success of that development, the team broke ground on the second Kirkby site earlier this year and revisited the local primary school to renew the children’s safety knowledge.

The pupils were given an informative and interactive presentation which highlighted the potential hazards that can happen on and around construction sites. They were also shown how the construction workers keep themselves safe, through the use of props and demonstrations.

Colin Murray, Regional Director of Health and Safety at Countryside, commented: “It was fantastic to return to Saints Peter and Paul three years after our first visit. The lesson was a refresher for some of the older pupils and helped them to remember the important aspects of staying safe. As summer approaches the children will be playing nearby to the site and it is vital that we do what we can to keep them and the wider community safe.”

Joanna Mousley, Headteacher at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, said: “The pupils really enjoyed the presentation in Assembly and it is of paramount importance to us to help keep our children safe. The children were asked to interact through questions and answer sessions, and are currently taking part in a poster campaign to help keep the children of Tower Hill safe by not playing, or going onto  building sites.”
