In conversation with... Hush Heath Winery
Set within 400 acres of the stunning Kent rolling hills, the estate is nearby to our Russet Grove development in the picturesque village of Marden, meaning new residents can be out exploring the vineyard with family and friends when moving here.
How long have you been working at Hush Heath Winery for?
What is your favourite thing about working there?
Wine and English wine in particular is a passion, and therefore working with something I care about is great. The English wine industry is growing and expanding quickly both in terms of size and the quality of the wines and working for a winery at the heart of this growth is extremely exciting.
What would you describe as the best thing about working in a winery?
Being involved with every element of the business and understanding all the stages in going from grape to glass is fascinating. The winery is surrounded by our vineyards and watching the vines develop throughout the year, with grapes harvested in October, and then seeing how the wine develops in the bottles of the next few years is extremely interesting.
What does the word community mean to you?
I think the community is probably more important than ever. We always work hard to involve the community with what we’re doing and give back where we can. It’s important to us that we act in a generous way.
How do you describe the winery to your friends/family?
Stunning. The 400-acre Hush Heath Estate is simply beautiful, 400 acres of vineyards, orchard, woodlands and wildflower meadows. Words never seem to do it justice though, it’s somewhere you need to visit to see what a beautiful place it is.
Where is your favourite spot in the winery?
On the decking looking out over the vineyards, on a summer’s evening around 5pm, with a glass of Balfour Brut Rose in my hand.
For someone new to the area, how would you suggest they get involved in Hush Heath? Are there volunteering opportunities or open days?
We’re open to the public 7 days a week so the best thing to do is to come and see us, take a walk around the estate and enjoy a glass of wine. For those people who want to get more involved, our Hush Heath Wine Club is a great way to do this. We have a series of events throughout the year for members, which include winemakers’ dinners, tours, summer cocktail parties and we even pick a date to pick the grapes together. It’s great fun and a great way to see what is happen behind the scenes.
