Living in Ousden, a small, rural village 20 minutes’ drive from Bury St Edmunds, for almost 20 years, Anne and Kevin Fisher, decided it was time to make the move closer to the bustling town. A three-bedroom detached home at Fornham Place at Marham Park, a brand-new village-style development by Countryside on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, proved the perfect place to call home.

Anne and Kevin started their search in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, but not wanting to compromise on space - both inside and out - the couple decided to widen their search and took a look around the new homes at Fornham Place.

“When we were looking in Bury St Edmunds, we came across several terraced and semi-detached homes. Having always lived in a detached home, this was something we didn’t want to compromise on. Our new home is a three-bedroom detached house and still provides us with the same amount of downstairs living space as our previous five-bedroom home – so lots of space to entertain friends and family.”

Having lived in a new build previously, the couple were also aware of the benefits of buying a new home, including the contemporary, high-specification finish and thoughtful layouts. Top priorities however, were a garage, driveway and a good-sized garden – the latter particularly for their Labrador, Mia – all of which they found at their new Countryside home at Fornham Place.

The ideal location

Keen to stay close to the countryside, the couple were drawn to Fornham Place for its proximity to a host of walking routes to enjoy with Mia including the new 35-acre country park within Marham Park itself.

“Bury St Edmunds is a very dog-friendly town and living on the outskirts means we get the best of both worlds – lots of rural, countryside walks, yet we’re also close enough to everything on offer in the town.”

Being close to the range of independent shops, theatres, sports centres and weekly markets in Bury St Edmunds was a big draw, all of which are just a short journey from the couple’s new home at Fornham Place. A new bus route from the development will also soon make the journey even easier for residents, while Marham Park’s charming village square means there are a range of facilities on the doorstep too.

“We’re used to rural village life, so the added benefit of the village square and being able to walk to the local shops is fantastic – on top of the easy access into Bury St Edmunds. There’s a growing feeling of community at Fornham Place making it feel really homely.”
