Upsizing couple are the first to exchange at The Colleys

With two grown up daughters, and now three grandchildren, Paul (67) and Ann (59) knew that buying a smaller property in retirement wasn’t for them. Rather than downsizing, the Barrowby couple decided to ‘up size’ to accommodate their growing family of little ones, opting for a beautiful Stratford FCT at The Colleys, Grantham.

Ann explained why they’re breaking the retirement mould: “We were ready for a move but with having three grandchildren now - one born in lockdown - it was really important to us that our new home had enough space to host everybody. We wanted all the children to have plenty of room to stay over and play while they’re here. The Colleys was the perfect fit!”

Having lived in Barrowby for 37 years, Paul and Ann know the area better than most and knew right away that The Colleys would tick all the boxes. Located just off Barrowby Road in Grantham, The Colleys is ideally situated for modern family living. With easy access to town and its amenities, as well as picturesque villages and rolling fields, the new development provides a great balance for those seeking connectivity as well as relaxation.

Ann added: “We love walking and cycling around the local area, especially along the canal and through the Vale of Belvoir. The development is also really close to Barrowby Parish, our church, and we have lots of friends nearby so, once we’d seen the properties, we were sold. We like the style of Countryside houses and the layout of the development. All the homes are different but blend really well together and the plots appear to be very well spaced.”

Having fallen in love with The Colleys, Ann and Paul found their perfect match in the Stratford FCT - a beautiful, detached, four-bedroom property with two bathrooms, a garage, and two car parking spaces.

Ann commented: “We’ve looked at several houses over the last couple of years, but it was the layout of Countryside’s homes which really appealed to us. The modern, open plan design is really family friendly and will be perfect for when the grandchildren stay over.

“We also love the skylight windows which make for a really light and airy home. With those big french doors leading into the garden as well, the kitchen provides that indoor meets outdoor feel that we’ve enjoyed previously with a conservatory.”

The Stratford FCT ground floor is finished with a handy WC, understairs storage and a compact utility room with its own entryway. Upstairs the landing leads to four generous bedrooms, including a beautiful master bedroom complete with en-suite and bay window.

Having used Countryside’s Assisted Move scheme to sell their previous property at the full asking price, Paul explained why they chose to opt for a new build for their next home: “We decided to purchase a new build this time as they are very economical. We already have a smart metre and are conscious of energy usage. So once we learned how much energy you can save in a Countryside home compared to an older property, it really got us thinking.”

Countryside’s efficiently designed homes come with a number of energy-saving features as standard, from best-in-class boilers to superb insulation and low-energy LED lighting. Features like these mean Countryside’s homes (when compared to a similar sized 1930s property) use 705% less energy and could save you up to £1,723 a year on bills - whilst giving the environment a helping hand too.

Prices at The Colleys start from as little as £239,995 for a three-bedroom semi detached home. For more information visit or call 01476 849425.
