Jamie and Victoria Connolly Brook Valley Gardens Case Study

Young family move up the property ladder in time for Christmas with Part Exchange at Brook Valley Gardens

A growing family was able to buy their second home and move in before Christmas thanks to Countryside’s Part Exchange scheme, which saw the developer purchase their previous home. The young family has moved into a brand-new three-bedroom house at Brook Valley Gardens in Chipping Barnet without having to go through the usual stress of selling their old home.

Their one-bedroom flat in East Finchley had been on the market for almost two years, before they decided to take advantage of the speed and certainty provided by Countryside’s Part Exchange scheme. Using the initiative, the couple avoided the hassle and anxiety of selling chains, as well as the cost of estate agent fees.

Research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research has shown that homeowners are having to wait longer to find a buyer than they did a year ago, with a property now taking an average of 102 days to sell. Buyers Jamie and Victoria Connolly, aged 35 and 34, were all too familiar with this trend.

Jamie, an events manager in central London, said: “Since we had our daughter two years ago we had been looking to buy our first family home. The Part Exchange service meant that we didn’t need to sit and wait in a chain, and was a really straightforward process, a lifesaver for us.”

Figures from Lloyds Bank reveal that six in ten second steppers have found it harder to move up the property ladder than take the first step on to it.

Jamie said, “We’d been living with Victoria’s parents while trying to sell our flat but thanks to the Part Exchange initiative, we have been able to move in before Christmas. We can’t wait to host Christmas this year in the comfort of our very first house together.

“Brook Valley Gardens ticked all of our boxes and we absolutely love all the space we now have, especially our new garden.”

Brook Valley Gardens is a landmark ‘garden suburb’ style development in leafy Chipping Barnet. Forming part of the major regeneration of the Dollis Valley housing estate, Brook Valley Gardens will comprise 600 new homes when complete, consisting predominately of houses. The development also features a central garden square, new green spaces and community facilities, including a community centre, children’s play areas and pre-school nursery.

Jamie said: “We purchased here because, like any parent, we were looking for an area with good schools. But it has also allowed us to stay close to family and friends.

“There’s a very friendly atmosphere around the development, with plenty of other young families moving in at the same time as us. Our next-door neighbours even have a two-year old daughter as well.”

With fantastic travel connections into central London, Brook Valley Gardens is close to Barnet High Street, which offers a varied selection of shops and amenities.
