Committed to our communities: Countryside signs COVID-19 Business Pledge

Countryside is proud to be one of the latest signatories to the COVID-19 Business Pledge, created to support millions of people across the world in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

The COVID-19 Business Pledge, the brainchild of former UK Cabinet Minister, Rt Hon. Justine Greening, and UK entrepreneur, David Harrison, is a force for good in addressing pandemic-stricken countries globally.

The signing cements Countryside’s commitment to supporting the communities it has helped shape for over six decades, its dedicated employees and loyal customers. The Pledge outlines that businesses should make conscious efforts to support these three groups through various initiatives – the same three groups that are at the heart of everything Countryside does.

Countryside sits alongside other organisations such as Facebook, Coca Cola and King’s College London who have made a commitment to support over two million people across the world in the face of the virus’ immediate challenges. Pledges, such as Countryside’s, will help accelerate the search for a solution to this pandemic.

Countryside has already stepped up work in communities across the country, by committing to donate over £1m over the next three months to support local shelters and foodbanks throughout the UK during this time.

Closer to home, Countryside is unwavering in its appreciation of employees across the business. The national housebuilder has taken the decision to pay employees across the board, furloughed or not, their full salaries during this period to provide ease of mind. On top of this, there have been no redundancies made as a result of the pandemic. The business aims to be fully transparent with all of its employees, customers and partners in order to make sense of a very uncertain and challenging time.

The changes to everyday life have steered Countryside’s approach in finding new ways of engaging with employees and customers alike. Whether through virtual advice services for anxious first-time buyers or staff members working remotely for the first time in their lives, Countryside is adapting its approach to make the best out of a challenging situation.
