Countryside attends the Cherry Picnic in support of Rochester’s Grade II listed park, The Vines
Last weekend, we were delighted to join the Friends of The Vines community group for their annual Cherry Picnic.
The Vines is a Grade II listed park in Rochester, where our Rochester Riverside development is located. The park boasts a unique heritage and history and is overlooked by some of Rochester’s most architecturally important buildings, including Restoration House, where Charles II stayed on the eve of his restoration in 1660.
The Friends of the Vines, which has approximately 90 members, supports planting schemes and arranges regular events at The Vines. These include the annual fundraising Cherry Picnic, Bug Days for children and bat walk events. The group also works with local primary school, St Margaret’s at Troy Town, to involve pupils in events held in the park – for example, the school recently hosted its sports day at The Vines.
In 2008, The Vines was awarded a Green Flag Award – the international standard of quality for parks and green spaces – for the first time. This prestigious award has been given to The Vines every year since.
At Countryside, we are always happy to support important community organisations, like Friends of the Vines. Its members work extremely hard to ensure The Vines is well maintained and kept at the heart of community life in Rochester. We thank them for inviting us to take part in the Cherry Picnic and look forward to next year’s event!
