Outline plans have been approved by Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee and will bring forward up to 1,300 new homes, 30% being affordable, with a primary school and a number of exciting new community and commercial facilities at Tangmere – along with significant areas of public open space that make up around half of the site, including allotments and a community orchard.

Countryside was appointed by Chichester District Council to work with them and Tangmere Parish Council to bring forward the strategic site. The landscape-led plans were shaped through two years of ongoing engagement with the local community and stakeholders to build on the identity of Tangmere and integrate with the existing community to create one connected village.

Martin Leach, Managing Director, Strategic Land, Countryside said: “We are delighted that Councillors were supportive of the plans which have evolved to create an attractive place that responds positively to the context of Tangmere, with the community at its heart. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Tangmere Parish Council and the community as we progress with the details of the Reserved Matters planning applications.”

The Outline Planning application was progressed alongside a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) process, and a decision on this is expected by the Secretary of State later this year. Following this, it is anticipated that Countryside will submit the initial Reserved Matters applications in early 2022 with construction commencing later that year.
