Countryside East Midlands, Waterloo Housing and Derbyshire Dales District Council celebrate completion of new Cardinshaw Road development

Waterloo Housing, together with its partners, Derbyshire Dales District Council and Countryside East Midlands celebrated with local residents the completion of new homes on the £7m, new development at Cardinshaw Road, Matlock.

The development has attracted support from Homes England who part funded the scheme in the sum of circa £1.5m. Once fully completed the site will deliver 58 new affordable homes for local people. 12 of the 58 new homes are available for shared ownership (part rent, part buy) to assist local people gain access to the home ownership market, the rest are being allocated for rent via Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Home Options choice based lettings scheme.

Local resident, Natasha Hunt watched on as her children Tommy and Matilda did the honours of cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of the new homes completed so far. Natasha said “I am really pleased with my new home, it’s a great area, the houses are lovely and my children can finally have a bedroom of their own, I am very happy.”

A tree was also planted by Councillor Susan Hobson, Vice-Chair of the Community and Environment Committee at Derbyshire Dales District Council, as a lasting reminder of the official opening.

Anthony Riley, Director of Development and Operations at Waterloo said “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Derbyshire Dales District Council and Countryside East Midlands to deliver these much needed new homes in the Derbyshire Dales. This development is one of the largest schemes to deliver new affordable housing in Matlock for some considerable time, and goes to demonstrate how our proactive work with Derbyshire Dales District Council and Countryside can go some way to meeting the shortfall of this much needed type of housing in the area.”

Councillor Lewis Rose, Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council said “Once again our housing and planning teams have worked hard to make this exciting partnership with Waterloo and Countryside happen, helping to create 58 more affordable homes for local people on an excellent site.”

“We are delighted to report that this is also one of a total of 547 affordable homes across the Derbyshire Dales that are currently being completed or have outline or full planning permission.”
