Countryside’s Beam Park development shortlisted at 2019 AJ Architecture Awards
Designed by architecture firm, Patel Taylor, Beam Park is east London’s exciting new community, which will deliver 3,000 new homes to the Barking & Havering area. The development is located amid 17 acres of breathtaking open spaces and overlooking the River Beam.
AJ Architecture Award’s Masterplan category rewards architects that demonstrate an overarching vision for a new development. At Beam Park, Patel Taylor have designed a new landmark district on the former Dagenham Ford site. Importantly, open space forms 77% of the masterplan, more than half of which is publicly accessible. Planned open spaces at Beam Park include a children’s play area and an outside gym equipped with exercise apparatus. The new central park will be the heart of the community: designed with biodiversity in mind, this green space will be the perfect place to relax and enjoy the flourishing wildlife.
Furthermore, proposed new facilities at Beam Park include new schools, a nursery, medical centre, and a gym, as well as retail and leisure space. For instance, the development’s Station Square will provide a bustling colonnade of shops, supermarkets, electric charging points, a community café and a parcel collection and drop-off point.
The AJ Architecture Awards recognises excellence in UK architecture across a range of categories, and this shortlisting reflects our commitment to beautiful architecture, placemaking and community. We look forward to finding out the winners of these highly coveted awards at the AJ Architecture Awards ceremony on 20 November 2019 at Exhibition London, in Shepherd’s Bush.
