Wood Street community tours the new Marlowe Road Energy Centre
Completed in August 2018, the Marlowe Road Energy Centre has the capacity to generate up to 10,900kW of energy. The centre will provide heating and hot water to the new homes at Feature17, Countryside’s regeneration of the Marlowe Road estate, as well as the existing Stocksfield estate and further provisions around the area.
Feature17 is Countryside’s regeneration of the Marlowe Road estate in Walthamstow, which is providing 436 new homes, with 38% affordable, including 150 council homes for rent to replace the outdated existing homes. Countryside is also delivering flexible retail space, managed by the council and surrounding a new plaza, while improved walkways and cycle routes link into Waltham Forest’s ‘Mini Holland’ scheme, a play area and water feature. The new community and commercial space will transform the former estate and area surrounding Wood Street station.
Wood Street First is a voluntary community group based in the Wood Street Ward of Waltham Forest, whose aim is to improve the lives of all those that live in the Wood Street community, making the area a better place to live, work and play for everyone.
Andy Fancy, Managing Director, Partnerships South (North & South), Countryside, said: “By delivering the Marlowe Road energy centre we have extended the low-carbon decentralised heat network across Waltham Forest, thus reducing carbon and air quality emissions and improving the quality of life in the borough. We were delighted to show Cllr te Velde and Wood Street First around the energy centre, showcasing the positive impact our regeneration scheme is having on Walthamstow.”
